Below we'll list our 6 tips on how to go about booking your next romantic vacation or getaway on the web, and some sites that we find useful in helping you plan a trip within a budget.

#1. - Be flexible. You are more likely to save money if you are less specific about times and dates that you wish to travel on. You could potentially save a few hundred dollars by booking an indentical flight two hours earlier or later than you had wished to travel to begin with. Traditionally, flights are more expensive on weekends and holidays. Your best day to fly and save a bundle of money seems to be Tuesday.

#2. - Take a few minutes to look for promotion codes before you book your vacation. There are numerous websites that do nothing but categorize various promotional codes, most of which are not advertised. Field promotion codes or bonus vouchers are used by pratically every online travel site. Try opening up a separate browser window and search for "free (name of site, i.e. expedia.com) promotion codes", and check out a few of the results. Keep in mind, some of the results may be expired or incorrect, but a few minutes of searching can save you up to 10%.

#3. - There are still many leading travel sites that only deal in U.S. or Canadian departures, so make sure to verify where your travels are set to begin. For Canadians, in some cases, you can save on airfare by crossing the border and flying out of many northern US cities. If you don't mind the extra travel, it can save you hundreds of dollars on airfare.

#4. - Most large travel sites have an online newsletter that you can subscribe to via email. The only drawback is that you inbox could be overwhelmed with knock-down prices on random flights that you might not have any interest in. If you don't mind searching through all the deals to find one that interests you, this is an easy way to find cheap deals without much effort.

#5. - Several smaller travel sites or applications that deal exclusively in trip comparisons. Sidestep, for example, is one application you will need to download, then everytime you visit a travel website, it will pop-up on your screen with information. Farechase and Qixo are also great sites that offer global searches for cheap airfare, or you could subscribe to the fee-based Bestfares.com, and have reports emailed to you on bargain hotel rates, cheap car rentals, discount cruises, and much more.
